More info about these wines and regions:
Wine number one: This can be a confusing wine based on the label and where it’s from. First off, it’s technically not a Prosecco, for it’s made with Cabernet Franc grown just outside of the Prosecco zone. However, it’s made by Il Follo, a great Prosecco producer, in a style that is very Prosecco-like (Charmat process and the resulting wine is creamy, clean, airy, and tiny touch sweet). We LOVE this wine for serving at the start of a meal, or to celebrate things like “the sun rose today! Yay!”
Learn more about the laws of Prosecco, food and wine in the Veneto, and what to do the next time you’re in Venice (we SHALL travel again!).
Wine number two: This is without a doubt one of the top sparkling wines made in America today. Argyle is a specialist in sparkling wine, having earned more Top 100 spots in Wine Spectator than any other winery in the world! This is the traditional blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, using the champagne method of second fermentation in the bottle, and is pitch-perfect with the balance of fruits to acids. Love!
Learn more about the history of Willamette Valley wines, an interview with the founder of Argyle Rollin Soles (who now runs his own operation at ROCO Winery), and the insider’s info on the growth of the sparkling wine category.
Wine number three: This is one of the best wines I’ve had in the last 24 months. Seriously. Franciacorta deserves the moniker “The Champagne of Italy,” but it’s more than that. It’s a special region of dedicated winemakers that are making something distinctive. Because they don’t use Meunier there, and instead use Pinot Bianco (along with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, of course), the wines have more lift and acidity than other serious sparkling wines.
Learn more about Franciacorta, about Ronco Calino, and about what to do when you’re in the region (we SHALL travel again!).
